We will walk the area inside THE HUb, rain or shine. THIS WALK IS inspired by Dr. Opal Lee's,"Opal's Walk for Freedom. Dr. Opal Lee was 89 years old when she began her iconic 1,400-mile walk from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., in September 2016, walking 2.5 miles a day for several months, to advocate for Juneteenth to become a national holiday. 2.5 miles represent the 2.5 years it took for slaves in Texas to learn of their freedom. She continued this tradition annually, leading community walks today.

On Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 12:00 PM, families, elders, youth, caregivers, neighbors, church members, and community leaders will come together at the City Hall Artspace Campus Outdoor Amphitheater in Downtown East Dearborn for a sacred time of reflection, community prayer, family blessings, unity, and faith. This outdoor gathering is designed to be more than a moment on the calendar. It is a lasting family memory — a peaceful, uplifting, and spiritually grounded experience where generations can sit together, pray together, reflect together, and speak blessings over the future of their homes, children, communities, and legacy. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and come ready to receive encouragement, connection, and renewal in a welcoming atmosphere filled with love, reverence, and community care. Free parking is available. Family Noonday Prayer is presented by Family Life Ministries with First Lady Pearl Hill, Dr. Julia Kapilango, and Miss’y Regina A. Thomas, under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Michael E. Hill. Juneteenth Celebration

On Friday, June 19, the Battery Park City Authority will host its annual Juneteenth Celebration, a free community event for all ages featuring storytelling, pony rides, music, dance and more. The afternoon kicks off with The Federation of Black Cowboys, who will share the history of Juneteenth through a demonstration of Western horsemanship. Children ages 3+ can then enjoy pony rides with views of the waterfront park. The Harlem-based Go Hard Dancers will lead an interactive hip hop and soul line dancing workshop where all participants can join in the fun.
