Waterbury Black Giving Circle Juneteenth Celebration
About This Event
The Waterbury Black Giving Circle (WBGC), launched on Juneteenth in 2021, hosts its annual Juneteenth Celebration honoring Black community, joy, and freedom. The evening features local catering by Sandra Martin, music by local artist DJ E-Money, and performances by first-place winners of the WBGC Juneteenth Oratorical Contest, where students present original speeches on Black history and the meaning of Juneteenth. What to expect at a Juneteenth cultural program
Cultural programs go deeper than festivals β think curated exhibits, panel discussions, gallery talks, dance performances, oral history projects, and film screenings. Theyβre generally shorter (1 to 3 hours) and ticketed venues often waive admission for Juneteenth. Dress is typically smart casual. These programs are excellent first Juneteenth experiences for visitors who want context before joining a parade or block party.
