Juneteenth with Griot B, A Celebration of Black Excellence for Children & Families
About This Event
Join us for a powerful Juneteenth celebration and community care activation benefiting South Los Angeles families, hosted by children's music artist, educator, and School Yard Rap founder Brandon “Griot B” Brown on Friday, June 19. Fresh off his upcoming NPR Tiny Desk Contest “On The Road” Tour performance at Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco (June 12), Griot B is bringing his nationally recognized blend of music, culture, education, and community impact home to Los Angeles for an uplifting evening celebrating Black Music Month and Juneteenth. We invite children and families to participate in this youth empowerment & cultural celebration in honor of Juneteenth featuring community grocery, backpack & diaper giveaways, as well as a family-friendly live musical experience (think "Hamilton for this generation"). Approximately 1,200 LAUSD children and families are expected to attend this free community celebration, creating a meaningful opportunity for guests and partners to support South Los Angeles families in need while celebrating Juneteenth through culture, education, music, and community impact. The event also offers positive media and community visibility for participating talent, brands, and organizations, while providing a wholesome, family-friendly experience that welcomes children and families to participate together.

What to expect at a Juneteenth concert
Juneteenth concerts span gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and Afrobeats — sometimes all in one lineup. Outdoor stages are common, so bring layers and a low chair if seating isn’t provided. Doors typically open 30 to 60 minutes before the first set. Food and drink vendors are usually on-site; cash is still safer than card at smaller events. Many performers wait until the final hour for headline acts, so pace yourself.
